Searching for Information on Sir Richard Turnbull, 1909-1998

I thought that you and your colleagues might like to know that I am writing the biography of Sir Richard Turnbull, 1909-1998.  This is a major work and will take some time to complete but, though in its early stages, it is progressing well. I am in touch with his closer relatives in the UK, principally his twin children, Alison and Julian, but if there are other members of the clan who know anything about Sir Richard, I should very much like to be put in touch with them.

            My best wishes.
            Yours sincerely,
            Colin Baker.

Feb. 2003   Greetings from Scotland !  Could you please post this on your respective web sites?

CAVERS KIRK UPDATE
Due to an oversight by the planning officials, the application for planning permission to turn the Old Kirk of Cavers into a private house will not be dealt with till Tuesday March 18th, with deadline for objections Tuesday 11th March.

Local feeling is growing against, with another public meeting demanded, so if any of you still want to make your feelings known there is still time - I shall be happy to pass them on.

May I take this opportunity to say how grateful I am to you all - your response has been magnificent !  I am amazed just what one little email to Dr. Hellmann has achieved and I will keep you informed.  THANK YOU ALL.

March 19, 2003   This was an official statement from the Planning Authority per our local councillor:-

" I can confirm that Mr. Bennett has decided to defer the application to renovate and convert Old Cavers Church to residential use in order to investigate other sources of finance to renovate the property. it is unlikely to come before the Planning Committee before June/July "

Would you be kind enough to post this on the Turnbull web, along with my grateful thanks to all who wrote (and can still write) and with the promise that they will be kept informed of developments through the web?

As I explained to Dr. Margaret Hellmann, the fact that the property is privately owned is a drawback to how much can be done in the way of pressure, but we are slowly making headway lobbying officials (who have the final say) and involving all the Historic Societies, past lairds and ministers and their families, local societies, etc   -  in fact I have not had one letter supporting the opposite viewpoint and many, many from you folks in U.S.A. We are beginning to find out quite a lot about Mr. Bennett, the owner and do not like what we see and hear. Will keep you posted.   Kindest regards,    Jean Muir.

2002 On Saturday, Brittany Jennings was awarded a certificate of appreciation. Brittany has been representing both her family and the Turnbull Clan for many years through competitions of HighLand dance. We are all very proud and thank her for her hard work and dedication.  Thanks Brittany!
