Turnbull Wedding a Hit at Lake Louisa
by Brian Turnbull
Peter Turnbull and Maija-Lisa Davis
exchanged wedding vows on August 6, 2005
at Lake Louisa Quebec, Canada.. Peter is the youngest son
of TCA Vice President, Brian Turnbull. Pete and Maija live in Fairfax,
Virginia, their wedding, however, was held in a large tent on Brian’s
property at the end of a week long celebration with family and friends
from near and far.
Shortly before their marriage,
Peter and Maija purchased an island on Lake Louisa with the
municipal
name of Island 43. The celebration, therefore, started Saturday, July 30th
with an inaugural party on Island 43. Monday was a round of Golf
followed by a Texas Hold’Em Poker evening, hosted by Maija’s Aunt Jane,
which raised $500 for charity.
Tuesday was lake day, where guests
were encouraged to bring towels, tots and flotation devices to Pete and
Maija’s for an afternoon of water fun including skiing, tubing, sailing,
fishing, canoeing, pedalboat, sandbar, raft, and punch. The weather
cooperated all week with some excited cousins making their first trip on
water skis.
Wednesday saw the
Ladies throw a shower for Maija, while the men congregated on the island
for an opportunity to do some further cleanup of fallen trees and
cleaning of trails.

That evening
Maija’s dad (Don) hosted a dinner at Au Pied de la Chute for out of town
guests and immediate family that featured barbequed lamb and homemade
breads, salads and desserts, which was a gourmet delight.
Thursday was
Pete’s Bachelor day with more golf and a trip to Montreal. Friday, Gail
and Brian hosted a Méchoui where guests young and old feasted on a
100
pound BBQ pig as well as hotdogs and hamburgers for the young.
Finally, on Saturday
we had a chance to celebrate Pete and Maija’s union with cocktails, hors
d’oeuvres and a seven piece swing-dancing band until the wee hours of
the morning. Pete arrived on time for the wedding by boat with Maija
arriving shortly thereafter by land. The ceremony was fun and
innovative, the speeches entertaining and the music was superb, not only
as reported by guests but also by residents all around the lake. It was
reported that the bride and groom and several of their friends did
indeed party till dawn before a quick swim and a few hours of shut eye
