From the President

by Wally Turnbull

TCA exists to preserve the heritage and to promote the fraternity of the extended Turnbull family.

Unlike heritage which deals with the past our fraternity focuses on the present interaction between  members of the extended Turnbull family for social, friendship, networking, reference, promotion, exchange, and information purposes.

TCA is launching a new program called the Bullpen for those who want to have friendly exchange with members of the worldwide Turnbull family by serving as local resources.  Bullpen exchanges and supports are meant to be at a level comfortable to each person. Members are asked to serve as either Hosts or Resources.

Bullpen Resources are members who are willing to provide information and recommendations to others about local activities and services.  Resources may also be willing to share their knowledge about varied topics such as photography, genealogical research, recipes, quilt making, fishing, or almost anything of mutual interest.

Bullpen Hosts are members who are able to offer personal local contact to Turnbulls who are traveling.  Hosts are not required to have guests stay in their homes though they may choose to do so.  Hosts are willing to meet, when possible, with Turnbulls who are visiting from out of town for fraternal interaction and advice about the local area.  Some hosts may offer vacation or study exchange opportunities.  Others may provide business networking contacts.

Information about Bullpen Hosts and Resources will be available from the TCA administration and through a private Bullpen area of the TCA website not available to the public.

Sign up today for the Bullpen by returning the enclosed form.  This is a great opportunity to meet extended family members from around the world and to develop new friendships.

Meet the Members:

This month’s member is one of TCA newest members, David Turnbole.  Born July 7, 1945, Dave spent the first 18 years of his life in Ellisburg, a tiny community in upstate New York.  Before receiving a degree from UCLA, Dave joined the Coast Guard and served for 5 years which included serving on the Coast Guard Cutter Dallas.  While in the Coast Guard, Dave met and fell in love with his best friend’s sister, Stephanie.

Dave and Stephanie were married in 1967 and had two daughters, Samantha and Katherine.  Samantha is married to Matthew Meier and teaches sciences for the Boston, MA school district.  Katherine attends Syracuse University and is also a member of TCA.  An interesting side note is that Samantha also served in the Coast Guard and her duty station was the same Cutter Dallas.

Stephanie died of cancer in 1988.  Dave remarried 15 years ago to Kathleen, a Methodist minister and they now live in Sherrill, New York.  Dave is retired but maintains a graphic arts design business and works primarily with race teams, their cars and race resumes.

Dave enjoys showing off his ’03 PT Cruiser Turbo and his ’74 Cadillac Eldorado convertible.

Dave has been doing research into the family genealogy.  He says that his father changed the spelling of the family name from Turnbull to Turnbole.

Dave enjoyed a trip to England and Scotland in 2003.  He would love to return someday and spend more time visiting the Borders and other regions.
