Help us Branch Out
Like all good trails, the new Bullseye feature Turnbull Trails has
many side paths leading from the main road. There are a few more
Turnbull destinations to cover in the Borders but many more trails
will lead us “Beyond Borders.” |

|
The Turnbull Trails
articles are a sort of who, what, when, where, and how of Turnbull
places, firstly on the Scottish borders and then elsewhere.
The trails have begun as articles of interest to
Bullseye readers. The collection will then serve as a reference on
the Turnbullclan.com website and eventually be made into a brochure
pamphlet for members to use in their travels.
Once we have covered the remaining destinations in
the Borders we would like to write about other Turnbull sites of
interest around the world such as Fort Trumbull discussed on the front
page of this issue, Rosedown Plantation in South Louisiana, New Smyrna
in Florida, and possibly others like the Turnbull Winery in California,
Turnbull Primitive Baptist Church in Northern Middle Tennessee, Turnbull
House in Wellington, New Zealand, Turnbull House on the Prairie Band
Potawatomi reservation, Turnbull Park in Cleve, South Australia,
Turnbull Park in Benicia, California, etc.
Please help us. We need your help in identifying
other places of Turnbull interest. As much information as you can
provide will be appreciated. Even if you only know the name or
location, please pass that along and we will research it further.
Please send suggestions for further Turnbull Trails and information to:

By Florence Kuntz
Hi everyone! I’m Florence Kunz. My
father was Wallace David Turnbull and my mom is Mary (Warren)
Turnbull. My father died in 1987. I had five brothers, Wallace,
Kenneth, Lee and Lynn (the twins) and Murray. I’m the oldest,
born on January 1st, 1940, the |
 |
New Year baby in the old Galt hospital in
Lethbridge, Alberta,
Canada.
My husband, Clarence Kunz, and I were
married in 1957. We were both kids when we were married and will be
celebrating our 48th wedding anniversary in July. Our Lord
blessed us with four daughters, Tiwana, Constance, Clarice and Shannon,
and a son, Richard. We have twelve grandchildren and three others by
marriage. Our grandchildren have given us four grandbabies. We also
helped raised a foster daughter, Penny.
Clarence retired in 1993. We love to
travel and have explored Canada and parts of the United States.
This year my health has slowed us down a bit because I had to go on
kidney dialysis but with practice I’ll conquer it we will be able to hit
the trails again. You all know nothing can keep a true Scotsman down.
My grandfather, James Turnbull,
immigrated to Canada in 1906. He was the oldest of William (1855) and
Isabella (Chrisholm) Turnbull (1856). He was born on December 31, 1883,
at Whiterick Boog, in the Parish of Merton, in the county of Berwick, Scotland. Granpa
Jim married Margaret May Burns on September 9, 1909. They had seven
children; Blanche, my father Wallace, Bruce, James, Harold, Douglas, and
Joan. As you can see from our photo, their family grew and grew.

Clarence and Florence far left at family
reunion
We have family reunions every three
years. We all gather in Grassy Lake, Alberta, where our
grandparents started their lives together. I’m the family secretary and
have been since our second reunion. We have a chief, a council, and
committees that help make our gatherings so enjoyable. Our reunion is
always on the same long weekend in August. Two of my cousins are pipers
and when they can we pipe in the haggis. We have several games that we
give medals for, as well.
I’m also the family snoop. I’ve been
compiling a book about our family. One day I may even finish it. |
