BULLSEYE

Getting there: Fatlips Castle is located on Minto Crags, North of the A698 off of the Chesters/Ancrum road which runs between the B6405 and the B6400.
From Jedburgh take the A68 north. After crossing the Teviot River take the next road on the left signposted Ancrum.  Do not enter the village but keep left on the minor road.
From Hawick, travel north on the A698 until you reach the town of Denholm.  In Denholm turn left onto the B6405.  Just after crossing the Teviot take the first right onto the road to Chesters and Ancrum.
Fatlips Castle is visible high up on the northwest side of the road about one mile when headed towards Ancrum or four miles from Ancrum.  You can park your car along the side of the road and hike up to the castle.  The path is rugged and very steep so proper attire and shoes should be worn.

You can also access Fatlips from Minto Estate east of Minto Village.  While this is an easier walk, permission must be obtained from the grounds keeper.

To get to Minto Estate from Hawick, travel north on the A698 until you reach the town of Denholm.  In Denholm turn left onto Kirkside and go to the end.  Turn right on Leyden Road for one block then turn left onto Minto Road which is the B6405.  In a half of mile, turn right and follow the sign into Minto.  In Minto, just past the church, turn right into the golf course.  Follow the road about half a mile to Minto Manor and a pathway up to meadows above the estate.  Walk through the meadows towards the south where there is a gate between he two knolls of Minto Crags.  Through the gate bear left a short distance on the path to Fatlips Castle.
