Turnbulls of Rossie Schedule Big Reunion

All descendants of the family of Thomas
and Sarah Turnbull are invited to attend a reunion in Rossie and Oxbow,
NY on Friday and Saturday, August 12 & 13, 2005 to celebrate the arrival
of Thomas Turnbull's widow, Sarah Wood Turnbull, who brought her family
of nine children from Scotland to "The Scotch Settlement" of Rossie, NY
in the year 1820.
Attendees will hear the story of the
Turnbull family journey from Scotland to Rossie and also learn about the
family lines of Sarah's 9 children that have been traced from their 1820
arrival to the present.
The Turnbull children were: Mary
1792-1870 (m. James Miller); Isabella 1795-1870 (m. John Bryden); Thomas
1797-1882 (m. Elizabeth Howard); William 1802-1872 (m. Mary Ann Dodds);
Adam 1803-1872 (m. Isabella Laidlaw); Sarah 1806-1863 (m. Peronious
Church); Janet 1809-1886 (m. George Ormiston); Michael 1810-1880 (m. Margaret
Laidlaw); Andrew 1813-1885 (m. Ann Dodds).
Reunion activities on Friday [9am to 5pm]
and Saturday morning [9am to 12 noon] will be at the Rossie Community Center for attendee
arrival and registration, visiting and getting acquainted, viewing
displays and seeing local places of interest. On Saturday, the
activities move to Oxbow to the Presbyterian Church where the Turnbulls
have attended since the beginning of the Church in 1820. The Oxbow Museum, next to the Presbyterian
Church, will be open all day Saturday for reunion attendees and will
serve a light lunch at noon at attendees’ expense. A Turnbull Reunion
Memorial Program will be held in the Oxbow Presbyterian Church at 2pm
Saturday to celebrate the arrival 185 years ago of Thomas Turnbull's
widow, Sarah Wood Turnbull, and family of 9 children that left Scotland
and arrived in Rossie's "Scotch Settlement" in 1820. |

A buffet dinner will be prepared by the
Oxbow Presbyterian Church women’s group and served in the Church Hall on
Saturday evening at 5:30pm. Dinner reservations are requested: $9.00
adults/ $4.00 children under 12. A registration fee of $4 per adult (16
and over), for both days, will be charged to help offset mail expense
and building rental
As part of the reunion, a bronze plaque
will be installed in the Old Oxbow Presbyterian Church Cemetery on the
gravesite of Thomas Turnbull's wife, Sarah (1774-1834), to commemorate
her life and to restore the inscription on her grave stone which has
become illegible over the years.
