• Anecdote*: Grandma's parents died when she was 13 and her older sisters raised her and her two younger brothers.
  Grandma always hated flowers so everyone gave her chocolates on brithdays and mothers day. Flowers reminded her of cemeteries and the loss of her parents at a young age.
  When she was an adult living in Lakemba lots of neighbours kids knew Grandma as Aunty Mary. She also had lots of neices and nephews.
  Grandma played the piano when she was young, something that most of her kids and grandkids didn't know about.
  Grandma loved to dance and her feet were always tapping when there was music.
  Grandma best friend was Sophie Ernst who lived next door to Grandma & Grandpa. Aunty Sophia immigrated from Switzerland. In her later years, Grandma would take us to visit Aunty Sophie in the nursing home in Petersham.
  Grandma used to do her groceries once a week at Flemings Supermarket in the main street of Lakemba.
  Grandma loved Rugby league, her favourite team were the Bulldogs. If the Bulldogs were in the grandfinal you would see Grandma's house completely decorated in white and blue, inside and out.
  Grandma loved the cricket.
  Grandma loved The Young & The Restless and The Days of Our Lives, she called them her serials.
  I remember Grandma as a strong independent lady.
  Grandma was very family orientated, and her extended family were also important to her.²
