Anecdote*: ALEXANDER TURNBULL, born 1877. He returned to Pictou Co., worked in the Albion mine and lived in Stellarton where he was killed by a train in 1917. He was crossing the railway bridge across the East River when hit by a train from Sidney and his body was thrown all the way to Lourdes Station. His children include James L. born 1905, Annie, Andrew, Gerald born Mar. 18, 1911 (son of Alexander Turnbull, miner, and Mary; baptism no. 1287 Christ Church, Stellarton) and Robert (information from Elsie, Mrs.John Elmer Esling, Stellarton, daughter of James L. Tumbull). His four sons followed him into coal mining.
James Turnbull. 78, of Coll Ave., Stellarton, died June 3, 1983. He was survived by his wife nee Martha Foster (married 1927) and by 3 daughters, 7 sons, 23 grand children and 7 g.g.children. He was a coal miner and a drummer with the Pictou Highlanders Pipe Band (from obituary, New Glasgow Evening News, June 4, 1983). James Turnbull is the subject of a chapter in Coal In Our Blood, 200 Years of coal mining in Nova Scotia's Pictou County, by Judith Hoegg Ryan, Formac Pub. Co. Ltd, Halifax, 1992, 146 pp. The chapter includes a photo of James and Martha. On his father's death and at age l3 he started work in the MacGreagor Mine at a place called Cassidy's Sinking, a tunnel to a deeper part of the mine that was driven by master miner Alonzo Cassidy.

Anecdote*: ALEXANDER NOBLE TURNBULL was born in Monticello, Florida on March 15. 1871. He was the second son of Samuel I'urnbull, and could· not settle on anyone vocation. He was hard hit in two depressions, seems that· his most successful vocation was farming. On June 24, 1901 he married Christina Oakley in Monticello, Florida. In November of 1908 they with their then three children moved to Prescott, Arizona where Alex entered the general merchantile business wth a partner named Thomas Bottoms. Arizona was then a Territory. In 1911 the family became homesick for Florida, liquidated the business, and with the fourth child, returned to live on a plantation .. six miles east of Monticello, Florida called Silver Lake Plantation, named. after a large lake bordering the southeast corner of the plantation. In 1915 the family, with two additional children making a total of six, moved into town where Alexander called Monticello, Florida his home until he died in 1933.
