Death*: He died on 11 June 1869 in blackjacks, near, Lytle, Medina Co., Texas, USA, at age 61; bitten by a copperhead snake-a poisonous snake not uncommon in the blackjacks. After he was bitten, the family became excited and did not know what to do since he was the one who did the doctoring in the family as he was the one who had read medicine. He was given whisky while waiting for the doctor to arrive from Castroville some fifteen milesaway. Riding horseback to Castroville, finding the doctor and returning took considerable time. By the time the doctor arrived, Edwin was dead. The children selected a spot under a tree on a slight rise in a shady field on their property and burried him in what was to become the Lytle-Trimble Cemetery.
