Anecdote | I can tell you that I think I have found our "Perry" family, I have found two 'Isaac Perrys' one a sea-captain who died in Bethnal Green and the other a merchant in London - I'm working on them! I also sent away for "Perry of London - A Family and a Firm on the Seaborne Frontier" . Apparently the Perrys were once the greatest merchants and traders in London, they and the Carters had extensive plantations in Virginia and as shipowners were the largest importers of tobacco and sugar into England. in the 1750s.They also took textiles to other countries, no doubt from Carter mills, and of course, Moriers were also involved in this industry. I should tell you that they also collected slaves from Africa and took them to the plantations. So we have Peter David Morier and Mary Carter and John Francis Morier and Anne Mary Perry showing our links - incidentally, I found information in at least two copies of The Gentlleman's Magazine which listed John Francis as having been bankrupted twice - with different partners - I'll keep exploring here.1 |
