The Raleigh Sun, Bellingen, NSW, Fri 3 Feb 1899, Page 2SUDDEN DEATH AT CLYBUCCAA PAINFULLY sudden death took place at the Travellers Rest Hotel, Clybucca, 0n Saturday last. . From evidence taken at Unkyh by Mr. W. D. Hodge, J. P, it appears that on Saturday morning a painter named Frank Danker, travelling in search of employment, met with Robert H Turnbull near the hotel, and entered into conversation with him. Turnbull complained of faintness and a flickering before the eyes, and asked Danker what he thought it was. Danker said he thought it was the effects of drink, and advised him to get something to eat; but this he declined to do. Turnbull seemed to be very restless, and after several moves into better shade he came over to where Danker was sitting in the shade of a large tree, and asked leave to rest his head on Danker's swag. Here he remained for a short time, and then he exclaimed, ''Oh' Heaven, what is this? Just look at my heart. Danker says he saw that something was wrong, from the heavy pulsation, and he advised the man to go over to the hotel verandah and sit down on a chair. He did so and Danker, who was preparing to go on the road, observed Constable Morris ride up just as Turnbull raised his blinds as if in salutation. His hands fell by his knees and his head dropped! Some ten or fifteen minutes afterwards he was in the same position, and Mrs. Paulson, going out to the verandah to offer him some food, found him dead. Constable Morris, who was joined by Constable Lawler, of Macksville, found in the deceased swag a certificate of discharge from Grafton Hospital, which showed that he had been subject to heart disease and chronic rheumatism; In view of this the coroner, Mr. W Burton Smith,- P. M, deemed an inquest unnecessary. The deceased was a native of Kilmarnock.- Scotland, and was 42 years of age. He was a carpenter by trade, and had been drinking heavily during the week.https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/127663821#6,2 |
