ObituaryHis Obituary was published on 5 December 1885 and stated:. Considerable surprise was felt at Port Adelaide by the announcement of the death of Mr. G. M. Turnbull, the Manager of the National Bank branch office. Mr. Turnbull, who had seemed a very picture of health, had only been away from his duties last week. He went home with what he understood was a severe cold, but afterwards proved to be diphtheria. It appears that several in his family had just recovered from the complaint when he was attacked. Mr. Turnbull, who has left a widow and a large family, including some young children, was, before he succeeded Mr. William Neil at Port Adelaide, cashier in the National Bank, Adelaide, and Manager of a branch at Mount Gambier. At the Port his active interest in local matters made him popular outside, and his careful attention to business procured him the good opinion of customers, while his genial, agreeable manner secured him many private friends.
