Fanchon Turnbull, 65, former elementary school teacher in Walters, died Thursday morning in a hospital here after a brief illness. Funeral will be at 10:30 am Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church. Rev.  Glenwood Buzbee, pastor of the Elk City Presbyterian Church and former pastor here will officiate. Burial will be in Frederick Cemetery under the direction of Gish Funeral Home.
Mrs. Turnbull was born Jan 12, 1912 in Frederick and lived here most of her life. She was married to Earl Austin Turnbull on June 24, 1938 here. He died April 5, 1953. A graduate of Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Mrs. Turnbull taught school for a total of 37 years before her retirement las May. She taught in Hollister, Pauls Valley and Walters before returning to Frederick in 1955 to teach first grade. She was a member of both the Oklahoma and National education Associations and was past president of the Classroom Teachers Association. She was a member of the 26th Century Club and t XI Chapter of Delta Kappa  Gamma. A member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was an elder and a former deacon, she served as clerk of the church board.
Survivors include a son, John Ryan Turnbull, Laurel Miss; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Jane Shields, Norman; two sisters: Ms. Mary Mathis, Frederick and Mrs. Jane Haymes, Dallas, Texas and three grandchildren.
