Robert Eugene “Bob” Turnbull passed away on Feb. 13, 2011.
He was born on Sept. 25, 1925, to Oscar and Angie Turnbull. The family lived in the Sagle, Idaho, area their entire life.
On Nov. 23, 1943, Bob was drafted into the U.S. Army. During his service in World War II, he saw combat action in France, Germany and Belgium. Bob fought in the Battle of the Bulge, where he was awarded a Purple Heart, Silver Star, Bronze Star and the Bronze Oak Leaf. Bob was a combat infantry sharpshooter. He was wounded in action and honorably discharged after the war ended.
Bob married Elara Jean Boothe on Sept. 25, 1953. On Aug. 26, 1958, Elara gave birth to Irena Marie. On Oct. 29, 1959, Elara gave birth to a second child, Richard Eugene. The marriage was dissolved after 47 years.
Bob loved the outdoors and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He worked in the woods for Louisiana-Pacific, where he was a timber faller in his earlier years and spent his later years operating the road grader until retirement.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James “Jim” Turnbull.
He is survived by his two children, Irene and Rich; and his grandchildren, Spencer, Angela, Jason, Jacob and David. His great-grandchildren include Lakiah, Kaitlyn, Lela, Jabari, Jacobi, Roman, Ariana and Glen.
