. William with his first wife Mary moved to the Monaro district of NSW in about 1847, where he settled some 20 miles south of Cooma and established himself as a storekeeper at Woolway, near Berridale. He later established himself as a Storekeeper,
Innkeeper and property owner at what later became the village of Berridale, which was named 'Berridale' after his native
place in Scotland, and the present township of Berridale grew around his store and inn.
