Biography | Biography appears on. Harriet was born on 19 August 1844 at Taita, The Hutt. She was the daughter of William Welch and Ann Welch. She married James Harvey on 8 September 1875[1] at her father's house[2] although the marriage was registered in the Knox Archives as taking place at St John's Church, Wellington[3]. Her groom's brother Thomas and sister Helen were the witnesses. They had five children and several others that lived a few hours or were stillborn. Anecdote | Between 1921 and 1971 He was involved in the first New Zealand Epeditionary force. In 1921, he set a world record in the shot put - 46 feet, 1/2 inch, in Christchurch. The record stood for thirty-three years. Peter also held sixty-eight Australian and New Zealand provincial titles. From 1921 to 1928 he lived at 124 Brougham Street, Wellington. Sometime between 1928 and 1930, he moved to 22 Randwick Road, Wellington. In August or September 1940, he was promoted to Sergeant of the Police, from Constable, and moved to 606 Massey Street, Hastings. In 1943 or 1944, he moved to 373 Point Chevalier Road, Grey Lynn, Auckland, where he was a Senior Sergeant. He lived here at least until 1951. In 1954 he was living at 200 Kohimarama Road, Kohimarama, Auckland. Peter was now a Police Superintendent. He was appointed officer-in-charge of the Auckland Police District in December 1954. He was also appointed Assistant Commissioner of the Police in Auckland in the same year and was awarded an OBE (civil division) in 1956. In 1957 he was living at 241 Kepa Road, Kohimarama, Auckland. He lived here until his death. Peter was also a Justice of the Peace.
