Obituary | His Obituary was published on 19 September 1918 in Chariton, Iowa. A. M. TRIMBLE Mr. Alex. McCall Trimble passed away Saturday afternoon, September 14, 1918, at 4 o'clock, at his home in southeast Chariton, after an extended illness, at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 5 days. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. W. M. Story, of the United Presbyterian church, were held at the home Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock, after which interment occured in the Chariton cemetery. Deceased was born in Belmont county, Ohio, where he spent his boyhood days. At the age of 19 years he came with his parents to Washington, Iowa. He attended the schools at that place, where he first met his life companion. On September 5, 1861, he was united in marriage to Miss Caroline Meek. For several years their home was in Washington. From there they moved to Indianola, where they lived for several years, after which they resided in Lacona for a number of years and then moved to Chariton, the last ten years of his life being spent here. Seven children, five boys and two girls, were born to them, two of the boys dying in infancy. Those, who with the aged companion survive, are Mrs. Sarah Hadley, of Whittier, Calif., John Alfred, S. R. and J. M., of Chariton and Mrs. C. F. Miller, of Tipton, Mo. Nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren are also living. In early life Mr. and Mrs. Trimble professed their faith in Jesus Christ as their Saviour, and united with the United Presbyterian church, of Washington, Iowa. They have remained active members of the church for many years. He served as trustee in different churches to which he belonged. He was a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor, and a loyal citizen. He manifested a marvelous degree of patience, cheerfulness and submission during his last illness. For the last seven years he has been unable to attend divine worship, but he never lost interest in it. For about a year he has been confined to his bed most of the time, but even under such trying circumstances manifested a spirit of submission, and expressed himself as ready for the Master's call. The sorrowing wife and children, who were so devoted to him during his long illness, will have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement.3 |
