Anecdote | Jan Campbell Jul 23, 2020, 3:47 AM to genealogy@turnbullclan.com Dear Turnbull Compiler, I hate to tell you this but the Alexander Williamson marrying Elizabeth Campbell are not correctly connected to the Williamsons of Monaro which is also shown incorrectly on the Monaro Pioneers site. My sister, Gwen Hubert, was our family historian and put this information up, but she died in 2019 thinking this correct. I have just been looking at our family tree and find this Alexander Williamson arrived in Oz as convict on “Countess of Harcourt” from Ireland on 28.6.1827. The marriage of Elizabeth Campbell to Alexander Williamson was conducted in Scotland in 1830. Alexander Williamson, as a convict with 7 yr sentence, would not have been allowed to hop off to Scotland to marry within 3 years of arrival, and the other history of his doings doesn’t support this marriage. He also already had a wife (Margaret Henderson) + kids back in Ireland. I have spent hours trying to find the true father of Charles Williamson, born 1834, but have not found that information yet. When I do I will notify the compiler of the Monaro Pioneers site to show new information – if I ever unravel this mystery. Kind regards, Janice Campbell (nee Wellsmore) whose grandfather was Archibald Williamson, the 5th child of Charles (b. 1834) |

Anecdote | John McPhie's sons were real " mountain men " They ran a lot of cattle on the Snowy Mountains country during the summer months and would bring them back down at the beginning of winter. Sometimes there would be an early heavy fall of snow before they had mustered the cattle and brought them back down and they would have to round them up on skis. Bruce and Jock ( Ian ) Williams would help them muster and would help make trails through the snow to bring the cattle out. The men would have icicles on their beards by the time they had arrived home. The Williams family lived on part of the Nimmo property called " Wahrane " on the Middlingbank road. There were three boys and two girls, Bruce, Jock, Robin, Una and Lassie.
