Turner, Mary Elizabeth Oliver - Mrs. Archie Turner passed away at her home in Lenox Thursday, March 21 [1940], following a weeks illness. Mrs. Turner had reached the age of 84 years, 5 months and 7 days. Funeral services were held at the Barber Funeral Home in Lenox Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. W. A. Thompson, pastor of the United Presbyterian church at Garner, Ia., conducted the service. Born October 14, 1855, near Kewanee, Ill., Mary Elizabeth Oliver was the oldest daughter of William and Elizabeth Turnbull Oliver. She was married to Archie Turner of Barlow, Ohio on February 21, 1884, at which time they came to Lenox and settled on a farm two miles north of Lenox where they lived until the fall of 1920 when they moved to town. During these happy years six children were born, three of whom died in childhood, Margaret, Charlotte and Archie. Mrs. Turner is survived by one son, Oliver of Lenox and two daughters, Miss Anna Turner of Lenox and Mrs. Helen Frehse of Salina, Kansas; one grandson, Robert Freshe of Salina, Kans.; one brother, Dr. John H. Oliver of Kewanee, Ill. and a sister, Mrs. E. S. Good of Kewanee who spent the last seven months with her. Mrs. Turner was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church, first as a young woman, at Elmira, Ill., and thereafter an active a faithful member of the United Presbyterian Church of Lenox. Her husband, Rev. Turner passed away July 17, 1935 while visiting his daughter, Helen, in Salina, Kansas. |
