He married Betty Stavert on 30th December 1789 at Hawich in Roxburghshire. She was the daughter of George Stavert and Betty Niel and she was born on 7th June 1766. They had three children Henryette 1791 and Elizabeth born 1793. Then their son John was born in 1795, all were born at Roxburghshire.
