It should be McHattan; her parents were James McHattan and Martha McLaughlin. The family arrived per the "Margaret" in 1841. There were subsequent births to the parents, 1843 to 1846. The error has occurred because of poor handwriting in the original Church record for Elizabeth's marriage to Archibald Turnbull (snr). The church record for the birth of her first child, Sara Jane Turnbull in 1854, shows clearly that her maiden name was McHattan (see attached). Hereinafter cited as "E-Mail - Mike Power."
