Anecdote	, in Cawnpore, India, Death at Cawnpore They nearly escaped in one of the boats down the Ganges but it went aground. The river was fairly dry as the rainy season was late. The Pasha’s men forced them ashore. He had been shot in both arms but managed to delay the death of all by convincing the Pasha to let him read form a prayer book. He put off the slaughter for a couple hours.After the women were removed except for the Doctors wife the the men were killed. They were shot on the banks of the Ganges as was the Doctors wife. Some say the women and kids witnessed the killings. The other women and children were removed to the Nana Sahib's( The Pasha) woman's house. A two room building near the bazaar.¹
