Anecdote

The notable explorer of central Australia, John McDouall STUART, in the explorer's journal of his 4th expedition, he notes, on Thursday, 3rd May 1860: "I have named Mount Turnbull, after the late Gavin Turnbull, Esquire, Surgeon in the Indian Army."

When John McDouall STUART died in 1866, he was staying with his sister Mary, (in Kensington, London), who was the second wife of Gavin TURNBULL. Mary organised his burial and a suitable monument in Kensal Green Cemetery.
