Anecdote	Mr. John Michael Turnbull M. C. is the son of the late Mr.Edward Turnbull J. P. of London. Born on the 22nd of January 1921, he started his planting career in 1939. Mr. Turnbull first crept in Rubber under Mr. K. D.H. Gwynne D. S. O. in 1939 at Nagahatenne belonging to the Eastern Produce and Estates Company Ltd. and after Creeping on various Estates of the Company assumed duties as Manager Rothschild Estate Pussellawa in 1940. He was last away on Furlough in July 1966. Mr. Turnbull married 14th August 1947 Miss Joan Frances Percival (Nee Miss Waring) and by his marriage he has been blessed with three Children (1) Lynn Gillian (2) Sheila Hazel (3) Geoffrey John who is a student in England. Educated in Highfield School London where he was preceded by his 3 brothers-his favorite hobbies are stamp collecting Photography Camping Sailing and Visiting Jungles. He is also the Secretary of the Ceylon Stamp Club. Mr. Turnbull saw war service in 1940. He was on the Western Front and in Italy with the 2nd and 8th Gurkhas Regiments. He was wounded at Faenza in Italy. At Cessation of hostilities in 1944 he was demobbed and in Hospital for 2 years. Mr. Turnbull returned to Ceylon in 1946 September and resumed his planting career. Mrs. Turnbulls father Michael Waring was on Park Estate Kandapola and her Uncle Archie Waring was planting on Great Valley Deltoia. Her grandfather Mr. Waring was also planting on Craigie Lea Estate Mr. Turnbull was awarded the Military Cross when he was wounded on active Service. As one of the most genial Planters in our midst. Mr. Turnbull has always won the confidential esteem of his colleagues as well as his subordinates. We wish Mr. & Mrs. Turnbull and Children many years of radiant health and happiness.

( A Messuage was old English for a dwelling house containing outbuildings and land. A nook or niche identified an area belonging to someone.)
The area is just outside the walls of Newcastle, less than 1 mile from the Close.
It is reasonable to assume the Henry was related to Robert. possibly even his grandson²

Your branch has been traced to inside the walls of Newcastle. I believe that they all descend from Henry 1520 of Turnbulls Nook. This Henry is linked through property to Robert Turnbull in Newcastle born c. 1384 As there were barely a dozen Turnbull families at this time. Robert can only be the younger brother of Sir Walter Turnbull 1382 - 1454, 4th Baron of Minto. Therefore the g. grandson of William of Rule, the first Turnbull
