There is nothing on the database for there family that I could locate, however they are in the GEDCOM file which I forwarded to you last year however as I have updated my program since with some additional information for the whole family of James and Isabella do you want me to forward a GEDCOM file for the whole family or just for William Turnbull and Mary McCalman. Other Life Events

NoteWilliam John Turnbull. Following the death of his mother in 1891, William apparently went to live with his maternal grandparents. The Glenburnie school records show that William commenced his schooling on 13 June 1892 and his guardian was Mr John Bingham and he lived 2 miles from the school.

Following the commencement of World War I, William enlisted in the army. His pay records show that his Regimental number was 216, religion was Presbyterian and his classification was driver.

William was 28 11/12 years on his attestation date of 2 February 1915. William was assigned to the 2nd Australian Machine Gun Battalion but later transferred to the 7th Machine Gun Company. His next of kin was listed as Mr AC Bingham of Compton, (his uncle). William embarked on 30 June 1915 aboard HMAT Vestalia. His pay book shows that he received his first pay abroad at Abbassia on 6 August 1915.

His pay book also shows that between 30 August to 16 December 1915, he received his pay at Oases. During the early part of 1916 he saw service at or near Tel-el-kebir, Ismailea, Moascar, Morbecque and L'Epinette. The entries from 22 June until 7 September simply state his pay was received by him in the field, however he was admitted to the 1st AD Hospital at Bulford, England on 6 December 1916 and was discharged from there on 4 April 1917. Total confinement 120 days. On 16 April 1917 he was in Weymouth and there after the entries recorded that William received his pay in the field. He must have gone back to England as he received his pay at Grantham on 2 May 1917 and later in London.

William was discharged on 6 June 1919 but was paid up until 1 August of that year. The pay book also indicates that William was entitled to wear the ANZAC A medal and four clues: chevrons for four blues (clues?).

William was 54 years of age when he fell to his death while working on a roof on his property at Mil lel.
