I found a scrap of information in a page from Stark County history that says Robert went West looking for new land, and was never heard from again. 1880 census has Elizabeth as a widow.¹

There is not much information on this family. Notes imply that Robert disappeared in 1871 this would have been shortly after the last son James was born in 1867.
1880 census shows Elizabeth as a widow, three sons living at home and working on neighboring farms.. Working with Thomas, his cousin William Jackson, assuming him to be Elizabeth's younger brother. Also in the 1880 census is information on son Adam and his brother William, they are living at the home of, and working on the farm of D.D. Mc Lennan, who's wife is Maggie age 21,
