Lilly plans to use the scholarship toward her lessons. She resides in Orlando, Florida. Lilly says, “Scottish Highland Dance provides a lot of opportunity to meet people and travel and compete all over the country and world. I am excited to be a part of Clan Turnbull and learn about family history and meet others that are a part of the Turnbull/Trimble Clan. Dancing allows me to share this with so many people.
The Eleanor Turnbull scholarship was made possible through her children, who donated in her memory. The Dr. Eleanor Jane Turnbull scholarship is awarded in memory of the life of Eleanor Turnbull. (August 1924-October 2020). Eleanor Turnbull knew at an early age that God was going to use her. At the age of twenty, Eleanor Holdeman travelled to Haiti to visit her mother, who was serving as a missionary nurse. Eleanor was preparing to leave to be a bush pilot with Christian missions in Africa, being one of the first women to earn a pilot’s license. While in Haiti, she met Wallace Turnbull, and one year later, they were married. She spent the next 72 years of her life working and living among the Haitian people. In addition to her work in rural education, Eleanor became one of the most respected hospital administrators and medical influencers in the country, working to introduce mobile clinics and family planning in rural communities. Among her many awards for her work and service, Eleanor was decorated as a Grand Officer of the Department of Public Health. In responding to a question about her accomplishments near the end of her life, Eleanor said, “All this, it’s all His. It all comes down to obedience. God called me to Haiti, not to build all this, but to be obedient.”
You may honor a family member or special person in your life with a $500 donation to the scholarship fund. Donations may be made online at www.turnbull clan.com special project.
