Do you recognise this rather rough and unsavoury fellow? This is Aidan G.W. Turnbull of Chichester, West Sussex, UK. The UK-based conservation authority ENGLISH HERITAGE (responsible for more than 1,000 castles & stately homes in the UK ) is using him as the 'bad boy' image for its online 2014 CASTLES & STATELY HOMES promotions on Facebook.
This was a picture taken by an English Heritage photographer during one of the combat weekends featuring PELICAN IN HER PIETY, Aidan’s Living History group, at Dover Castle, Kent. Aidan is a Grade One Combat Fighter specialising in the Arms & Armour of the 15th Century (‘Wars of the Roses’ period), fighting mainly with 6 other armoured fighters in his team.
He is involved with regular UK open battle participation at Kelmarsh, Tewkesbury, Loxwood and Herstmonceux battlesites.
In his regular 9am-5pm job he heads a team as Managing Editor for the Power Division of Global Media Publishing of Horsham, West Sussex, where he is responsible for producing six different kinds of international Energy magazines, circulating in 153 countries worldwide (www.gmp.uk.com).
The rest of his time, he says, is spent in the combat arena defending himself from his friends, making sure he ‘doesn’t end up as an organ donor’, he says.
